Acquiring speech-language services in the educational setting can involve an overwhelming process for parents and families. It’s important for you to know their rights when it comes to special education law as it pertains to your child/children and what they are entitled to in terms of education, related services, and more. For children with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), the process of transferring paperwork between preschools or from preschool to elementary school is more straightforward. If you suspect your child may need an evaluation, whether or not there is a history of early intervention or special education, as a parent you can write a letter to request that your child be evaluated to determine if they have a disability and if they are eligible to receive special education and related services. This website provides a how-to and information on what this letter is and how it can help: https://www.parentcenterhub.org/evaluation-2/
